Get started with RFP API

Overview

The RFP (request for proposal) API gives you live access to open grant opportunities that you can surface directly inside your own product.

  • Show your users a live feed of open RFP opportunities, filtered by subject area, population served, and geographic area.
  • Return open opportunities for a specific funder, with no search workflow to build.
  • Keep your product current automatically. Every response reflects the current state of Candid's open opportunity data, so there is no manual refresh step.
  • Build with AI-native tooling. The API is consumable through Model Context Protocol (MCP) enabled tools, so an AI assistant can recommend relevant RFPs to your users in real time.

Endpoints

  • /rfp/v1/search
Search open RFP opportunities using free text plus filters for subject area, population served, and geographic area. Results can be paginated and sorted by organization name or deadline.
  • /rfp/v1/profile
Return open RFP opportunities offered by a funder, supplied as an EIN or Candid entity ID. Use this when you already know which funder you're interested in and want to view their open opportunities.
  • /rfp/v1/opportunity
Get all the details for a specific open RFP opportunity.

Full parameter and response details for each endpoint are documented on their individual reference pages.

Use cases

  • For nonprofit-tech platforms:
Surface a live RFP feed to your nonprofit customers without maintaining your own funding dataset.
  • For AI-native fundraising apps:
Call the API directly, or through an MCP-enabled tool, so an AI assistant can recommend relevant RFPs to fundraisers as they work.
  • For nonprofits with in-house developer or data teams:
Pull RFPs matched against your organization's priority subject areas and regions.
  • For prospect-research and donor-intelligence vendors:
Enrich your product with an always-current RFP feed for your nonprofit customers.
